What
is Periodontitis?
Periodontitis (or "gum disease") is an infection of the gums
and bone surrounding the teeth. The infection is caused by bacteria in
your mouth that results in slow, painless destruction of the gums and
bone. This can happen without your knowledge. Common symptoms are bleeding
gums, bad breath, loose teeth, receding gums and abscesses. Periodontitis
causes 70% of all tooth loss in adults*.
