Gum disease is treated surgically to eliminate the deep gum pockets around the teeth. The infected gum tissue is trimmed away and uneven bone tissue re-contoured. Surgical access also improves the opportunity to remove calculus (tartar) from below the gums. By eliminating the deep pockets, the health of the mouth is more maintainable with routine care.
