Sedation Makes Both Possible

A bad dental experience in the past. An aversion to sharp instruments. A fear of the unknown. There are many reasons that some people may prefer to avoid dental visits. While this is understandable, it is also concerning, because minor dental problems can develop into significant ones if they are not identified and treated. At Central Valley Periodontics & Implants we are sensitive to your concerns about dental visits. Let us assure you that we do everything possible to keep you physically and emotionally comfortable here. Count on us to provide effective, reliable sedation dentistry in Modesto, CA.

Dr. Clarke Filippi is a board-certified periodontist with the advanced, specialized training to treat a variety of periodontal conditions with exceptional, predictable results. Our Sedation Options

IV Sedation
Sometimes called “conscious sedation,” IV sedation is a form of moderate sedation that Dr. Filippi introduces into your bloodstream via an IV line. IV sedation puts you in a relaxed state quickly and reliably. You will be conscious while under its effects, and can interact with your dental team, but you will not feel anything during your treatment. You are also not likely to remember any part of it. With its many benefits, IV sedation is the method that Dr. Filippi and many of our patients prefer, when appropriate for the dental anxiety level or procedure, such as dental implant placement.
1
Oral Sedation
Oral sedation is similar in effect to IV sedation, though it is not as powerful. You swallow a pill before coming to our office, and will experience less sensation during your treatment. You may also not recall all of your visit as well. For both oral sedation and IV sedation you will need to have someone else drive you to and bring you home from your appointment.
2
Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous oxide is the professional name of the sedation method many people call “laughing gas.” Delivered through a mask in gas form, nitrous oxide does not usually make you laugh, but it will keep you conscious and calm during your treatment. Safe for children and teens, its anesthetic effects will wear off quickly after the mask is removed.
