IV Sedation: The Antidote To Anxiety

IV sedation is the antidote to the dangers of dental anxiety here at Central Valley Periodontics & Implants. Administered to you intravenously, IV sedation works quickly and predictably, putting you in a relaxed state. You will remain conscious, able to respond to commands and interact with us—the reason it’s also called “conscious sedation”—but you won’t feel or probably even remember anything about your treatment. Because of all these benefits, it is an ideal option for single, multiple, and full mouth dental implant placement, as well as bone grafting and periodontal surgery. Depending on the complexity of treatment and level of your dental anxiety, Dr. Filippi can also offer you other alternative sedation options. Oral sedation is administered in pill form before your procedure and has effects similar to IV sedation but isn’t as powerful. Because of this, it may be a more suitable choice if you have milder anxiety. Nitrous oxide, which you inhale through a mask, keeps you alert but completely calm. Sometimes called “laughing gas,” nitrous wears off quickly once the mask is removed. You can leave your appointment, drive yourself home almost immediately, and get on with your day.
